Dottie Blanchard Spirit Award

2009 Summer Balloon Camp
Las Vegas, NV

LorindaThe 2009 "Dottie Blanchard Spirit Award" was presented to Lorinda Ferrell of Continental Sales in Sacramento California. Lorinda was honored for her dedication and energies directed at the betterment of the Balloon Industry. As a teacher, distributor, activist for legislation protecting the industry and a balloonist, Lorinda was selected from several nominations for the prestigious Award. It was presented at the Final Night Gala of Summer Balloon Camp.

The Dottie Blanchard Spirit Award, or "Dottie" was created in honor of one of the industry's brightest stars. Dottie lost her life suddenly as the result of a tragic car accident on her way to teach at the very first Summer Balloon Camp in 2003. The industry lost a committed, dedicated and loving person. This award honors others who have shown the same spirit while working in the balloon industry.

The "Dottie" is presented yearly at Summer Balloon Camp to a person who has a genuine love of the industry and embraces the spirit of Dottie Blanchard. The recipient will be someone who willingly, with dedication and enthusiasm, unselfishly gives everything they have to better the industry and help individuals grow and prosper.

"There are really 4 other people who deserve to be a part of this award. My Mother and business partner, Lorna, who took up all of the regular work at Continental so I could work on SB1499. Terri Adishian, BWI, who spent all of her time working the legislators and running down the truth about the 'facts' the utility companies were putting out. And Dan Flynn, Pioneer, and Jim Plutt, Anagram, who handled the behind the scences lobbying, etc. But mostly this award is about all of you who stepped up and made the phone calls, wrote the letters, and sent the emails each and every time we asked. Thank you for all of your help in defeating SB1499!" ~Lorinda Ferrell, August 18, 2009, Final Night Awards, Summer Balloon Camp
